My Proposal

For my A2 media coursework i have decided to work again with my previous partner Imogen Brown as i feel we make a good team and are always able to accomplish what we hope to.

After much consideration we decided to do a promotion for a new film package including a 'teaser trailer' and either a web page, poster to advertise the film or an advertise in a magazine (two out of the three are required, we decided to exclude the web page).

The genre we have chosen to do is a new horror thriller film. We have again chosen to do a horror genre as we really enjoyed our previous AS coursework and we are able to stick easily to horror conventions.

We decided to do a magazine and a film advertisement to go with our teaser trailer. This is from inspiration from Andy Mcquade who is PR and marketing at GORZONE publishing - the UK's number one horror magazine seller. He came into our media lesson and spoke about his position and magazine writing. We did some research on the magazine and saw many advertisement's for up-coming horror films, we can take ideas from this and with more research we feel we will have a positive outcome. Our research will not just include looking at magazine front covers but also looking at posters for films to try and find conventions that we can use.

Our planning and research will continue on the horror genre, looking at advertisements in magazine (mainly horror magazines if possible). The people we hope to be in our texts are close friends and possibly family, this means that there will be less chance of them letting us down. We will soon start our schedule and will try to dodge things such as weather issues and move onto something else when we are stuck.

We need to think of locations, our last years coursework worked well because we were in school and this reduced problems as we were able to film whenever we wanted to, or if we needed to re-shoot something this was simple enough to do. Filming in and around school would therefore seem like a sensible idea however if our story line doesn't fit with the school environment we may have to film elsewhere.

Coursework Briefs and Ideas

My first thought when studying the coursework briefs was that the use of video may be an advantage to me. This is because I did the opening two minutes of a new film in year 12. I felt like this went well and may have increased my knowledge of editing and putting together another piece of moving image. One brief that caught my eye was 'A promotion package for a new film, includes a teaser trailer'. At the beginning of the Year 12 coursework I was hoping to do a film trailer, more action could be put into it and a lot of ideas came to me.Making a short film was another brief i found appealing. In a media lesson we looked at some well known short films such as 'Pudding Bowl' by Vanessa Caswill and films that targeted more serious topics. However, the film has to be 5 minutes, it has to be interesting and well constructed that also captures the audience's attention. Some briefs were crossed off straight away, such as 'The first level of a new computer game', this for me was out of the question. Another brief I ruled off was 'The first two pages of a new local newspaper' This may of been good experience to produce a 'printed image' piece of coursework however, i would prefer to stick with video as I feel like its my strongest aspect.
